I'm a fan. Since the first bite. Quinoa has been eaten for 5000 years, but only recently it has become more popular. And it's not a surprise, because these seeds are gluten-free, have high protein, iron and calcium content -among other things- and have very low fat. I've been using it mostly as a side dish, instead of rice for example, but it's so versatile that you can also added to vegetables in salads, or stewed with some kind of meat.

Cooking it is very simple, as shown by Sarah from My New Roots in the lovely video below. 

Soy fan. Desde el primer bocado. La quinoa se come desde hace 5000 años, pero en el último tiempo se ha empezado a hacer más conocida. Y no es una sorpresa, porque este alimento es libre de gluten, tiene altos contenidos de proteína, hierro, calcio -entre otras cosas- y es bajo en grasas. Yo lo he adoptado sobre todo como guarnición, para reemplazar por ejemplo el arroz, aunque es super versátil y también se puede agregar a ensaladas mezclada con vegetales, o en algún tipo de estofado con carne. 

Cocinarla es muy fácil, tal como demuestra Sarah de My New Roots en el video que sigue. De todos modos, estas son las instrucciones:

• Medir una taza de quinoa
• Enjuagar
• Colar
• Agregar 2 tazas de agua y una pizca de sal 
• Llevar a hervor
• Bajar el fuego al mínimo
• Dejar cocinar durante 15-20 minutos, y listo!

La petite robe

It seems like even before the start of summer, the heat doesn't give us a break in this part of the Southern Hemisphere. Deciding what to wear every morning in order to stay fresh throughout the day is getting harder and harder. That's why I decided that I'm going to incorporate some day dresses to my wardrobe this season. My requirements: to be light, fun and work appropriate.

Parece que aún antes de llegar el verano, el calor ya no da tregua en esta parte del Hemisferio Sur. Decidir cada mañana qué ponerse para estar fresca durante el día se vuelve más y más difícil. Así es que decidí que voy a incorporar unos cuantos vestidos a mi guardarropas durante esta temporada. Los únicos requisitos: que sean livianos, divertidos y apropiados para ir a trabajar.

Music Friday

Looking for Esperanza Spalding, I found this gem by two great composers of Argentinean folk, creators of so much goodness: Manuel J. Castilla y Gustavo Leguizamon. A pleasant surprise that makes me proud of this genre, mostly unknown abroad (perhaps overshadowed by tango) and that's very special to me, because a grew up enjoying it. Alone with her bass, Esperanza shows us how sweet this zamba is.


Buscando a Esperanza Spalding me encontré con esta joya de dos gigantes del folklore argentino, creadores de tanto: Manuel J. Castilla y Gustavo Leguizamón. Una hermosa sorpresa que no hace más que enorgullecerme de este género tan poco conocido en el exterior (tal vez opacado por el tango) y que es tan especial para mí, porque me crié disfrutándolo. Sola con su contrabajo, Esperanza demuestra la dulzura de esta zamba:

A few months ago, Nico gave me a smartphone as gift for my graduation, birthday and our anniversary. The main reason why I dreamed with having one was because I wanted to have Instagram. In fact, I think it was the first app I ever downloaded to the new phone. 

I think the beauty in this app resides, not only in the possibility of taking photos, running filters and sharing them, but also in seeing how even the most common things of everyday life get a new perspective depending in how you photograph them. 

This is my profile, in case you want to see more photos or follow me.

Hace unos meses Nico me regaló un smartphone. Fue su regalo de graduación, cumpleaños y aniversario. La razón principal por la que soñaba con un smartphone era para tener Instagram. De hecho creo que fue la primera aplicación que bajé en cuanto lo tuve en las manos. 

Creo que la belleza de esta app reside, no solo en la posibilidad de sacar fotos, ponerles filtros y compartirlas, sino también en ver cómo hasta las cosas más comunes de la vida diaria cobran una nueva significación depende de cómo se las fotografíe.

Cordoba

Last March we went on our first 2012 vacation. We decided to go to the Calamuchita region in Cordoba province. Nico had been to the Traslasierra area with some friends a few years ago, and I just knew the capital city.

We went by car and stayed in Villa General Belgrano, because it's close enough to the places we wanted to visit, and seemed like a pretty charming village.

We loved all the places we saw: the forests, the rivers, the hills. We concluded, as usual, that the beauty of nature never ceases to amaze us. 

En Marzo nos tomamos la primera semana de vacaciones de 2012. Nos decidimos a ir a la zona de Calamuchita en la provincia de Córdoba. Nico había ido a la zona de Traslasierra con amigos hace unos años, y yo no conocía más que la capital. 

Fuimos en auto e hicimos base en Villa General Belgrano, dado que está cerca de los lugares que queríamos visitar y parecía ser una ciudad muy pintoresca. 

Quedamos encantados con los lugares que vimos, los bosques, los ríos, las sierras. Llegamos como siempre a la misma conclusión: la belleza de la naturaleza no deja de maravillarnos.

I saw this video in this blog and it blew my mind. I don't know how they did it, but it's pretty awesome.
Buenos Aires is a roller coaster, and that's exactly what I felt the first time I was on my own in this great city.

Vi este video en este blog y me alucinó. No sé cómo lo hicieron, pero es increíble. 
Buenos Aires es una montaña rusa, eso es exactamente lo que sentí la primera vez que me las tuve que arreglar sola en esta gran ciudad.

Another beautiful little house, this time in Santorini, Greece. With its typical Greek style, it had me at the blue doors. And in the kitchen, a blue niche for the sink!

Otra hermosa casita, esta vez en Santorini, Grecia. Con el típico estilo griego, me encantó enseguida con las puertitas azules. Y en la cocina, una hornacina azul para la pileta!

Flower Power

I love flowers. Every once in a while I stop at the flower stand on my way back from work and buy a bunch to liven up the apt. I feel like it adds an instant punch of life, color and fragrance. A couple days ago I got this goop newsletter and I loved it.  I like to put the flowers in whatever I have in hand: mason jars in different shapes and sizes, little glass bottles, glasses. I think that's a way to highlight the beauty of the bouquet. In the end, less is more, right? Here are a few nice ideas I found around the web. xo!

Me encantan las flores. De vez en cuando paso por el puesto de flores cuando vuelvo del trabajo y traigo un ramito para alegrar la casa. Siento que es como un golpe instantáneo de vida, color y perfume. Hace unos días me llegó este newsletter de goop y me encantó. A mi me gusta poner las flores en lo primero que encuentro y tengo a mano: frascos de distintos tamaños, botellitas de vidrio, vasos. Me parece que así se resalta más la belleza del ramo. Al fin y al cabo, menos es más, no? Aquí van un par de ideas muy lindas que encontré por ahí. Besos!

Jericoacoara

Last October we went to Brazil. We started  planning our vacation with two simple premises in mind: to relax in a beautiful place. There are lots of beautiful places in Argentina where you can relax, but we wanted to go a bit further and make our first trip ever to Brazil. The most difficult decision to make was where to go, so I just typed "Brazil's most beautiful beach" in Google (true story), and we got a recurrent result: Jericoacoara. The photos we saw on the internet convinced us that it was the place we were looking for. So, we went along with planning our trip to Jericoacoara, a small fishers' village in the North East of Brazil. After two flights, a one day stay in Fortaleza, 5 hours on a bus and one hour on a jardineira, we finally saw white sand dunes and turquoise waters. We spent our week eating great seafood -and drinking caipirinhas, of course!-, meeting great people, riding buggies through the dunes and swimming in beautiful lagoons. Jeri is definitely the place to go if you love adventurous but laid back trips. Staying less than three days would not be enough.

En Octubre fuimos a Brasil. Empezamos planeando nuestras vacaciones con dos simples premisas en mente: relajarnos en un lugar hermoso. Hay muchos lugares hermosos en Argentina donde relajarse, pero queríamos ir un poco más allá y hacer nuestro primer viaje a Brasil. La decisión más difícil de tomar era adónde ir, así que simplemente escribí "lugares más lindos de Brasil" en Google (en serio), y obtuvimos un resultado que se repetía: Jericoacoara. las fotos que vimos en internet nos convencieron de que ése era el lugar que estabamos buscando. Así que empezamos a planear nuestro viaje a Jericoacoara, un pueblito de pescadores en el Nordeste de Brasil. Después de dos vuelos, un día de estadía en Fortaleza, 5 horas en un colectivo, y una hora en una jardineira, finalmente vimos las dunas de arenas blancas y el agua turquesa. Pasamos nuestra semana comiendo pescados y frutos de mar increíbles -y tomando caipirinhas, por supuesto!-, conociendo gente divina, andando en buggies por entre las dunas y nadando en lagunas hermosas. Jeri es, definitivamente, el lugar adonde ir si te gustan los viajes con un poco de aventura y a la vez relajados. Quedarse menos de tres días no sería suficiente.

Around the World

I just stumbled upon the title sequence for the movie Around the World in 80 days (1956) on TV. I didn't have a chance to watch the actual movie, but I was hooked by the beauty of its ending credits. It's so clever and well designed, that even the music changes every time the characters move to a different country.
Now I can't wait to watch the whole movie.

Acabo de encontrarme con la secuencia de títulos de la película Alrededor del Mundo en 80 días (1956). No pude ver la película en sí, pero me enganchó la belleza de los créditos del final. Es tan inteligente y está tan bien diseñada que incluso la música cambia cada vez que los personajes pasan a otro país. 
Ahora no puedo esperar para ver la película entera.
